My Famous Neighbor

I found out a couple weeks ago that I live just down the street from Zager of Zager and Evans. I was pretty excited by this, which probably says something about the general level of excitement in my life. Something bad. Regardless, I have never lived in such proximity to a former celebrity before!

Those of you who don’t know who I’m talking about will now find yourselves on the receiving end of a virtual disapproving head shake and tsk tsk sound that I’m broadcasting in your direction.

As the afore-linked Wikipedia articles indicate, Z&E were responsible for the song “In the Year 2525,” which was a smash hit in 1969. Growing up with oldies-loving parents, I am quite familiar with this tune. A few of you might even recall my spectacular karaoke rendition in Japan. Yes, I meant spectacular. It was a one-hit wonder, and apparently Zager now makes his living giving guitar lessons and selling modded guitars (word of the moment: luthier).

Anyhow, that was a brief moment of awe for me. Maybe some time I’ll go knock on his door for an autograph.
