Seattle, Part 3

Did you think I’d forgotten about my Seattle posts? Well, I did, actually. But not anymore!

This post is subtitled “The Gratitude Post.” You’ll see why.

On Saturday, we slept in, picked up lunch, and then headed to the Seattle Center. We walked around a bit and I marveled at how different it seemed from the last time I was there. Of course, the last time I was in elementary school, so that may have contributed. Next we hit up the Pacific Science Center. Definitely not as fun as I remembered it being as a kid. The fountains and water works weren’t filled yet, so we missed out on that stuff. For some reason they had the high rail bicycle closed down as well, which didn’t make any sense to me, since it ought to be functional regardless of the water below. Lame.

That evening we ate at some Mexican place Andy had been touting. The highlight of the evening involved spying on the table of 30- to 40-year-old women across the restaurant. Pretty safe they were all hot for Phil.

Later we went out again, hitting up the College Inn Pub and some other bar, the name of which now escapes me. The first was a cool place; the second, not so much. We got pretty toasted, though, so thank goodness Sarah was there to drive our asses home. Thank, Sarah!

On Sunday we woke up kind of late and went to Pike Place. It was exactly how I remember it. Got some tasty seafood for lunch at Lowell’s, then took Phil back to the airport. The remainder of the day was pretty uneventful; we were all pretty exhausted from Phil’s wild shenanigans. So we drank some wine and watched Adult Swim.

It was just me and Andy and Sarah on Monday, so we started doing all the cool stuff that Phil wouldn’t have been able to handle (for lack of wholesomeness).

First we drove to the international district and checked out the amazing Uwajimaya Asian market. Man, I wish Lincoln’s Asian market was half as big as that place. For lunch we ate at Busch Gardens. Haha, just kidding—it was actually a Japanese restaurant called “The Bush Garden.” Mmmmm… Sooooo good! Finally some tonkatsu! I could seriously devote an entire post to lunch. Plus Andy made a remark about the texture of the fish in his mouth that caused Sarah to lose her appetite, so then I got to finish her sushi as well. Thanks, I guess!

Afterwards we went to Capitol Hill and walked around for a bit. Andy and I held hands to fit in. Or at least we would have if Andy would just try to have an open mind for once—geez! We stepped into a trendy shop called “The Red Line,” and later into Urban Outfitters (which I hereby command to open a branch in Lincoln or Omaha!). I broke from my standard operating procedure in order to buy two awesome t-shirts that were on sale. I picked up a sweet Modest Mouse shirt in The Red Line and a Japan shirt in Urban Outfitters for only $7! (Perhaps I will post photos… is that lame? Maybe I can find a way to pull it off.) So Monday’s sidetracking turned out to be an awesome little bonus for me. On the way back we drove through Interlaken and the Arboretum, and it was super pretty and forest-y, but that’s boring to talk about.

Later on Monday I finally met Amy to eat supper at a super-kitschy little Mexican place in Belltown. We talked about Starbucks (she works in the main office) and some other really interesting Seattle-y stuff, and she gave me a quick tour of the Queen Anne neighborhood on the way to Amanda and Sarah’s apartment building. She also brought me a bag of Starbucks coffee roasted that very day. Thanks, Amy!

So I met up with Amanda and her boyfriend Thomas, and we jaunted over to West Seattle to pick up Sarah at “Rocksport.” Then we came back to Belltown, met up with Andy and Sarah, and wound up at another neighborhood bar. (See what I mean about Sarahs and A-names? Come on, previous generation! Have a little creativity!) Somehow—well not really; it was clearly due to inebriation—I neglected to take any pictures all night, and I greatly regret that. But, my wonderful cousins managed to get me more wasted than I had been in a long time, and I had a great time. Thanks, guys!

Tuesday I had an awful hangover, naturally. Ugh, flying sucks enough without that. Somehow I survived the ride back, but it was pretty. Kudos to Lando for picking me up at the airport.

Well, that concludes my tale. Maybe now I’ll start posting about stuff that’s actually happened in the last 3 months. Maybe.
